Our Salvation

Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” The first step of being saved is to hear the word of God about His death, burial, and resurrection.  

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall have ever lasting life.” The next step is to believe that God sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins and that He rose again so that we would have freedom to live in spite of our past or future sins.

John 13:3, “I tell you, no; unless you repent, you will all likewise parish.” You can hear and you can believe, but unless you repent you will surely not see God’s kingdom. This means putting off the former way of living and choosing God’s way of living.

Romans 10:10, “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” We must not only believe in our hearts but confess with our mouths that Jesus is God’s Son so that He too will confess us before God in Heaven. Matthew 10:32

Acts 2:38, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Having heard God's word, developed faith, repented of one's sins, and confessed Christ, a sinner needs only to have their sins washed away to become a Christian. The final step in becoming a Christian is to be baptized to receive forgiveness for past sins, washing them away through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. It is this obedient act that forms the bond to Christ (Galatians 3:27), and that person becomes a Christian, a new creature in God's sight.

Revelations 2:10 “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison that ye may be tried, and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of Life.” It is imperative that every believer remain faithful before an ever watching world so that we too, like Jesus will be able to win many with our lives.

“that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…”

(1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

“having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.”
(1 Corinthians 2:12)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” (Romans 6:4)

it shows that you already are one! Baptism does not “save” you; only your faith in Jesus Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring – it is an outward symbol of an inner change and commitment you made in your heart.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of  God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9)

It is our contention that baptism is an important step of obedience for a Christian. We strongly believe that each and every Christian should be water baptized by immersion. Baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. 

(Romans 6:3-4) declares, “Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” The action of being immersed in the water illustrates dying and being buried with Christ. The action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection.

Baptism is the first way you can be a part of Jesus’ Great Commission. Jesus said to His followers, “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:19-20)

“…and many of the Corinthians who heard Him believed and were baptized.”
(Acts 18:8)

“Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.”
(Matthew 3:13)

In Bible times, a person who converted from one religion to another was often baptized to identify conversion. Baptism was the means of making a decision public. Those who refused to be baptized were saying they did not truly believe. So, in the minds of the apostles and early disciples, the idea of an un-baptized believer was unheard of. When a person claimed to believe in Christ, yet was ashamed to proclaim his faith in public, it indicated that he did not have true faith.
